literary features

MFF features poetry, prose, and personal essays; however other forms of literary work are welcome. Literary features are designed to encourage emerging writers to promote their work. Having a feature with MFF is a great way to start building a professional writing portfolio.

Submissions are currently open and continue year-round.

Before submitting your work, please read the general submission guidelines as well as the specific guidelines for your category.

All submissions must be in Times New Roman or Courier New. 12-point font.

Submissions must be in either PDF, Google Doc, or Word.doc.

Please submit to only one genre at a time, and await a reply before submitting again.

Please submit a bio. We want to know more about you and what kind of writing projects you are currently working on. Please note that your bio will be posted along with your feature, so please do not disclose any personal information you do not wish to share with the general public. Please include a paragraph of your writing process. What inspires you to write? Do you write every day? What are your favorite books?

You can also send us any links such as social media, book links, websites, etc.

Submit up to five poems.

Poems can be of any length as long as the complete submission does not exceed five pages. We welcome cross-genre and interdisciplinary poetry. In your cover letter, please specify the number of poems you are submitting and list the titles of the poems.

If you are submitting prose, please submit only one piece at a time, unless you are submitting flash fiction or non-fiction (under 1,000 words), in which case you may submit up to three pieces in a single document.

personal essays

Send original, unpublished personal essays. Write about something that has a personal feel. The essay should have significance. We are interested in works that relate to social issues and current events. Please note that we do not publish rhetorical, academic, or strictly journalistic non-fiction.
