ALEXY PRÉFONTAINE

Biography: Aeforia is an artist from Montreal, Canada. His work is all about colors, balance, and emotion. Blending surreal landscapes and digital portraiture, he has managed to craft a distinct style over the years and develop a keen eye for details, while focusing on the emotional impact. His work encompasses many types of artistic self-expression, such as photography, and musical composition, with a heavy focus on 3D art and animation.
He began creating digital art using his phone in 2014 and has since collaborated with many brands and musicians as his style developed into intricate and colorful artworks. He has worked with companies such as Bershka, Cirque du Soleil, Pantone and Opera, as well as musicians like Odesza, Yung Gravy, Haywyre, Deathpact and Kidswaste.
His art now focuses on the creation of ethereal characters by utilizing digital fashion design and organic and detailed sculpting as means of expression. It is rooted in self-introspection and Aeforia translates his own human experience through these abstract and otherworldly figures and surreal landscapes. An expressive yet sophisticated use of texture, color, and composition can be recognized in his visual explorations.

Process:
My work is all about color, balance, and emotion. My practice includes the creation of surreal landscapes, but I specialize in creating ethereal characters. For me, they serve as a way of expressing myself through the use of language, color palettes, and composition. Due to their evocative poses and the fact that they often wear a mask, these characters possess an enigmatic and mysterious quality.
My visuals have an emotional and aesthetic purpose. In part, they are rooted in the idea of self-introspection, and on the other hand, their uniqueness can be expressed in large part by my colorful, expressive lighting. In each of my works, light and color play a significant role, which gives me the opportunity to experiment at every turn. There is a poetic contrast between these surreal characters and their aerial and colorful environment.
Since the very start of my journey, my art offers an alternative universe to what we are used to and invites the viewer to escape for a moment. It is also the result of the juxtaposition of my influences. As an example, colors and textures have always been at the core of my inspiration. I am also greatly inspired by music, which was the first tangible application of my art. Finally, portrait photography had an extensive influence on my work. Whenever possible, I study real photographs for the creation of my digital portraits, whether it be for the lighting, the colors, the pose or the composition used in this art style.
To create a piece, I use a wide range of software, including Cinema4D, Octane Render, DAZ Studio, Marvelous Designer, ZBrush, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, and Adobe's Creative Cloud suite.
